GOALS

SDG 17

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

Increasing international cooperation is seen as vital to achieving each of the 16 previous goals. Developing multi-stakeholder partnerships to share knowledge, expertise, technology, and financial support is seen as critical to overall success of the SDGs. The goal encompasses improving north–south and South-South cooperation, and public-private partnerships which involve civil societies are specifically mentioned.

AI is enabling data-driven collaboration and fostering innovative partnerships for the promotion of sustainable development worldwide. In this chart we observe the worldwide bribery incidence (% of firms experiencing at least one bribe payment request).

This perspective offers a real-time view of the worldwide news on cooperation-related topics, providing us with a media perspective on the progress at the different fronts of SDG 18.

A SDG Live Report is what it is all about! Here, you can have a real-time perspective of the state of the world in regard to AI and sustainability, tracking some of the main issues to address in the near future.

AI has played a transformative role in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17), which focuses on strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development. Between 2015 and 2023, there have been 53,006 scientific publications examining the impact of AI on enhancing global cooperation, improving data collection, and facilitating technology transfer. These studies underscore AI’s potential to streamline international collaborations, optimize resource allocation, and enhance data-driven decision-making processes across borders. With 12,715 news articles discussing AI’s role in SDG 17, public awareness of the importance of AI in fostering global partnerships and cooperation is increasing. Additionally, the development of 995 AI policies targeting SDG 17 highlights a significant commitment from policymakers to leverage AI for strengthening international cooperation and achieving sustainable development goals.

Looking ahead, the next 5 to 10 years are expected to witness further integration of AI in promoting global partnerships and cooperation. AI-driven platforms will facilitate more effective and transparent international collaborations by enhancing communication and coordination among stakeholders. These platforms will also improve the efficiency of resource distribution and project management in international development initiatives. As AI technologies advance, they will enable more accurate and timely data collection and analysis, providing critical insights for policymakers and international organizations to make informed decisions. Furthermore, AI will play a crucial role in capacity-building efforts by providing educational and training resources to developing countries, enhancing their technological capabilities and fostering innovation. Collaboration between governments, international organizations, and the private sector will be essential to ensure that AI-driven solutions are implemented ethically and equitably, accelerating progress towards SDG 17 and promoting a more interconnected and sustainable world.

Here is your window to worldwide cooperation efforts in AI. This dashboard is configurable and can be integrated into other systems to bring actionable technology into the systems of research institutions, governments and enterprises that are willing to make a difference.

Avoiding data bias in AI systems is crucial to ensure fair, accurate, and equitable outcomes, preventing the reinforcement of existing inequalities and enabling more trustworthy and inclusive technologies. Here you will see a dashboard analysing the bias related to the data ingested in this observatory for SDG 17.
